So, to ensure the folder won't be placed there again when I log to XP the next time, I create a zero sized file called "NetMeeting. That way, there is no way a new folder is to be created there with that same name. If you use FAT on your partition, you can boot up from a Windows 98 boot disk and do the same.
Even better, this way you can delete ANY file at all. Restart your computer and press F8 before the Windows XP boot up screen appears 2.
Select Safe mode with command prompt 3. Access the folder: cd "program files" cd "NetMeeting" 5. Delete all the files in the folder: del. Delete the folder itself: rd "NetMeeting" 7.
Create the zero-sized file: edit "NetMeeting. Just save the file and exit Edit 9. Restart your computer and you're done. You can do it to other unwanted folders. I usually do it to "microsoft frontpage", "msn gaming zone" and "Movie Maker". Just remember that you have to empty every single subfolder before using the "rd" command. Ah, if you try to use this procedure to delete the "Outlook Express" folder, it will say that it is not empty, even after you use "del.
To overcome that, type "explorer". It will bring up your normal desktop, so access the folder through Windows Explorer, there you will be able to effectively delete it. Just don't forget to create the zero-sized based file called "Outlook Express. Port Hopefully someone will be able to advise. Hi MiniB Perhaps this link will help? Daizy ,. Log in or Sign up to hide this advert. Goodness I would love to be able to remove the folder. Is there any possibilty that you would be able to advise me on how to go about this bit. Works fine - did it yesterday On cold reboot you will likely get a message about removing personalised settings for Netmeeting - YES. Haven't checked to see if folder is still present, but will do so and post back.
PeteC ,. First bit done Hi I ran the first bit - thank goodness you told me to click YES on cold re-boot as this happened when I rebooted after running the line the other day. Youre quite right! The folder is still there, but Task Manager does not show Net Meeting running.
Incidentally the command line given in both those links is exactly the same. For some reason this BBS does not repro. I'll keep looking on this, but if the program isn't running then why worry? Wonder if you need to log on as Administrator and run the remove line again. Wonder if we should be using it to run the command also? If you look at the link Daizy provided the person there had the same ' cannot move ' XP problem. I haven't a clue how to do this I have run reg.
The most obvious place is within the program folder. If you do an online check at anti-trojan - it will show this port open - Application which uses it - Netmeeting I ran the scan after running the remove BUT still reports the port. I do NOT have the Trojan but the port should be closed. Hopefully we will find an fix as it is really very annoying. Welcome to Tech Support Guy! Latest posts S.
